Archbald PA—— Valley View softball is back.
Early in the season, the Lady Cougars had to battle through the injury bug, and one of the biggest names working back to full strength was ace pitcher Abbi Call. It took time for her to recover, time for the lineup to settle, and time for Valley View to feel completely whole again.
But now it is playoff time.
And Valley View looks healthy.
Valley View looks dangerous.
Valley View looks alive again.
Sometimes injuries do more than take a player out of the lineup. They can change the rhythm of a team. They can affect chemistry, confidence, and the entire feeling of a dugout. When a star player, a Division I recruit, or a teammate everyone counts on is not 100 percent, it can quietly weigh on everyone around her. The game can feel different. The energy can feel different. Sometimes a team can even start to forget who it is.
That is what made Monday night feel so important.
The Lady Cougars entered this season with championship expectations after winning the PIAA Class 4A state title last year and returning six starters from that historic team. Even with only three losses — one to North Pocono and two to area powerhouse Abington Heights — Valley View had not always looked like itself. At times, the bats were quieter than expected. The defense had some uncharacteristic moments. A few weeks ago, catcher Maggie Hallett and Navaeh Evans were injured, and Call was dealing with another setback.
But somewhere between those difficult stretches and Monday night, Valley View found its identity again.
The Cougars remembered who they are.
They remembered how dangerous they can be.
And against Hanover, they played what felt like their first truly complete game of the season.
Call was electric in the circle, striking out seven with no walks while throwing a perfect game and no-hitter. The bats exploded. The defense settled in. The dugout energy returned. Every swing, every baserunner, every inning felt like Valley View was sending a message.
Abbi Call is back.
Valley View is back.
And Monday night, the Lady Cougars spoke loudly with their bats and reminded the rest of District 2 Class 4A that the defending state champions are still very much alive — and they are not going anywhere.
“Today’s game felt good! The energy in the dugout was electric. It was nice to see all the girls feeding off each other. Today felt much more like the version of Valley View softball that I have tried to cultivate throughout the last three years. We build a culture of excellence on and off the field. On the field today, these kids proved they are a top contender in the state.” Said Valley Views Head Coach, Mia Wascura
Mia continued: “Team chemistry means everything. If a team doesn’t have it, they can’t be the best they possibly can be. Throughout the season, I’d be lying if I said we weren’t lacking in this department, but there is no better time to come together than during the playoffs for what will hopefully be another state run.”
Now, you can count Valley View back into the conversation as a serious contender for another District 2 Class 4A crown and possibly even another run toward a state title. This team is experienced. This team knows what postseason softball feels like. This team knows how to survive pressure, how to handle doubt, and how to turn up the heat when the moment demands it.
They did it last year.
They entered the postseason with some questionable losses, and some people wondered if they were really ready for the playoff stage.
Then the Cougars flipped the switch.
And now, it feels like they may be doing it again.
Valley View is back.

“Abbi Call was on fire today. She was absolutely dominant in the circle with a perfect game and multiple strikeouts. I’m telling you now, when she is on her A-game both physically and mentally, there is nobody better in the state. Again, everyone needs to feed off each other and continue with the positive vibes. I think the fact that she is finally feeling almost 100% health-wise has made a major impact in upping her level of play. Small injuries sidelined her a bit at the beginning of the season, but now she is truly locked in and ready to go.” Said Mia Wascura
Valley View delivered one of its most dominant performances of the season Monday night, rolling past Hanover Area 17-0 in three innings behind an explosive offensive attack and flawless pitching. The Cougars finished with 15 hits and scored 15 runs during a massive second inning that completely broke the game open. Abbi Call led the offensive surge, going 3-for-3 with four RBIs, including a double and multiple run-scoring hits during the second inning rally.
Nevaeh Evans added a huge night at the plate as well, finishing with two hits, two RBIs, and a double, while Cora Castellani collected two hits and scored twice. Zoie Krupovich also recorded two hits and an RBI, while Ella Swingle drove in two runs. Valley View showed complete balance throughout the lineup, with Maggie Hallett, Ashlan Palickar, Grace Munley, and Mady Minelli all contributing key hits during the offensive explosion. Defensively, the Cougars played error-free softball and controlled the game from start to finish.
Inside the circle, Abbi Call was nearly untouchable, tossing a perfect game over three innings while striking out seven of the 10 batters she faced. Call allowed no hits, no runs, and did not issue a walk, dominating the Hanover lineup with complete command throughout the game.
“I enjoy the pressure and understanding what I have to do in high-adrenaline moments. I worked on my release point yesterday in my bullpen session, and it really benefited me in today’s game.” Said Valley View Division 1 Commit, Abbi Call.
She continued: “I play for my team, so being able to uplift them on both sides of the field is a great feeling and helps keep the game moving.”
Hanover Area finished with no hits and struck out seven times offensively. Caitlin Vigorito took the loss for the Hawkeyes after pitching two innings against the relentless Valley View lineup. Despite the difficult outcome, Hanover continued battling through the final out against one of District 2’s top programs. For Valley View, however, Monday night looked like a team beginning to peak at the perfect time as the defending state champions continue their postseason push with confidence, energy, and momentum.
“I was just trying to stay calm at the plate and trust my swing. I’ve been putting in a lot of work with my coaches and teammates, so tonight I just focused on making solid contact and helping my team any way I could. Once we got that momentum in the second inning, everybody started feeding off each other’s energy. Right now, I’m feeling really confident and comfortable, and heading deeper into the playoffs, I think we’re all locked in and ready for whatever comes next.” Said Valley View Senior, Nevaeh Evans
Nevaeh added: “I think it says a lot about how close and hardworking this team is. We trust each other, and no matter who’s up to bat, we know anyone in the lineup can come through in a big moment. Our energy tonight was amazing from the first inning, and I think that’s what makes us dangerous — everyone contributes in different ways. When our defense, hitting, and dugout energy are all working together like that, it gives us a lot of confidence moving forward.”
And maybe that is the most dangerous thing about Valley View right now.
“We are being doubted my many people so being able to push forward and show everyone who the true valley view is feels great. We are going to continue to stay up and end up on top.” Said Abbi Call.
Not just the talent.
Not just the championship experience.
Not just the Division I arms, the explosive bats, or the confidence returning at the right time of year.
It is the fact that this team suddenly looks connected again.
The dugout feels alive. The energy feels louder. The swings look freer. The defense looks calmer. The pressure no longer seems heavy on their shoulders — it almost looks like they are embracing it. That is what great playoff teams often do when May starts turning into late May and June. They stop thinking so much. They stop pressing. They simply start trusting who they are.
And that is exactly what Valley View looked like Monday night.
The Lady Cougars looked like a team rediscovering its championship heartbeat.
Last season, they showed everyone across Pennsylvania what they were capable of when the postseason lights came on. They battled through adversity, ignored outside doubts, and eventually stood as PIAA Class 4A state champions. This year’s journey has looked different at times. There were injuries. There were frustrating stretches. There were moments where the timing, rhythm, and identity did not fully feel there yet.
But now?
Now it feels different again.
Now it feels like Valley View is starting to peak at exactly the right time.
And if Monday night was any indication, the rest of District 2 — and possibly the rest of the state — may have just gotten a reminder that the road to another championship still runs through the defending champs from Valley View. Just wait and see.
