DUNMORE PA- In Dunmore on Tuesday afternoon, the thermostat read 86 degrees, and the sun blazed down over Dunmore High School’s softball field like the postseason had arrived with fire in the sky.

It was hot — but the Dunmore Lady Bucks brought their own heat.

Coming in with a 14-6 record, Dunmore looked like a team ready to make noise in District 2. From the opening inning, the Lady Bucks attacked with confidence, aggression, and purpose. The ball was jumping off their bats, finding open grass, kicking through the infield dirt, and turning a scorching afternoon into a statement performance against the Mountain View Lady Eagles.

On this day, Dunmore was simply stronger, sharper, and more aggressive. The Lady Bucks played with that deer-like toughness — quick, physical, and relentless — while Mountain View struggled to slow down the pressure.

This is a Dunmore team with high expectations. Last season, the Lady Bucks came up short of their ultimate goal, but this year feels different. With a new head coach at the helm — one who brings valuable experience from learning under one of the area’s best in Mid Valley’s Mike Piercy — Dunmore has the look of a team that believes it can compete for a District 2 championship.

The Lady Bucks have been tested throughout the season by a tougher schedule, and those battles may prove valuable now. On a blazing Tuesday afternoon, Dunmore did not just win the heat — they became it.

Paige Ancherani turned the circle into her own stage. Her pitches looked like missiles coming out of her hand, exploding over the plate and giving Mountain View almost no time to react. In just three innings, Ancherani struck out eight batters, walked none, and did not allow a hit.

By the time the top of the third inning ended, the game had already reached mercy-rule territory. Dunmore’s offense had erupted for 15 runs in only two innings, while Ancherani made sure Mountain View never found any rhythm at the plate. On a day where the sun was blazing, the Lady Bucks were even hotter.

Here play by play how the heat showed up:

Dunmore senior Rachel Walsh shared her thoughts after the Lady Bucks’ playoff win:

Recently, I’ve been trying to stick to the basics and get good, effective swings. We previously faced Mountain View on Friday, so we knew what we were going up against. The girls we saw were good pitchers, and we knew we needed to swing early and get a good lead early in the game, which I think we executed perfectly.

This definitely gives us a good push going into the district playoffs. We knew walking in that we could never overlook any team and had to give it our all. We’re more than happy with today’s win and definitely excited to advance forward.” Added Walsh

Dunmore delivered one of its most complete performances of the season Tuesday afternoon, rolling past Mountain View 15-0 in a mercy-rule victory behind dominant pitching, relentless offense, and sharp defensive execution.

It’s always good to play a complete game in the playoffs in all phases of the game- hitting, fielding, and pitching. Hopefully we keep the momentum going during the playoffs.Aubrey Mizenko

The Lady Bucks finished with 15 runs on 14 hits while drawing four walks and striking out zero times as a team. Aubrey Mizenko helped lead the offensive explosion with 3 RBIs and two runs scored, while Emily McGowan also drove in 3 runs. Paige Ancherani continued her huge day both in the circle and at the plate, finishing 3-for-3 with three doubles and an RBI. Ava Walsh added three hits and two RBIs, while Rachel Walsh scored twice and drove in a run. Kylie Farr, Nancy Mecca, and Paige Ancherani each contributed RBIs as Dunmore’s lineup consistently pressured Mountain View from the opening inning. Defensively, the Lady Bucks played clean softball behind the dominant pitching performance.

We had a really great day today. The girls have been working hard and things seem to be clicking for us at the right time. Said Dunmore’s First year head coach, Sarah Cantarella

Inside the circle, Paige Ancherani was nearly untouchable, throwing a 3-inning no-hitter while striking out 8 of the 9 batters she faced on just 33 pitches, including 26 strikes.  She credits her team for the perfect game.

“I had a perfect game today, and it was thanks to the help of my team. My movement pitches were working really well, which is always a plus. I feel really confident on the mound because I know I have my teammates behind me, ready to field any ground ball or catch any pop fly.” Said Dunmore ace Junior pitcher, Paige Ancherani.

Paige Added:It was very important for my team to stay focused. We couldn’t allow Mountain View to swing the momentum their way. I feel like we all executed that very well, and you could tell in both our offense and our defense.”

Paige Continues:Having a good day at the plate allowed me to relax more on the mound, too. Knowing that the entire team, from top to bottom, can contribute not only on offense but also on defense makes it a lot easier for me as a pitcher. I was really excited for this year, knowing that we would be gaining new incoming freshmen and a new coach. Coach C works with us a lot, running different situations and plays while also managing to keep us all focused. I feel like we all work really well as a unit, and that will only benefit us throughout the playoffs and in the years to come.

Paige’s Head Coach was proud of her ace pitcher today.

Any time Paige throws for us she comes out and is ready to compete. She also has tons of fun on the mound. She hit spots today, threw hard and made the ball move. This was one of the best games I’ve seen her throw this year. “ Said Sarah Cantarella

Mountain View finished without a hit and struck out eight times offensively. For the Lady Eagles, Jordan Briechle started in the circle, allowing 8 runs on 7 hits over one inning while walking one. Grace Gravine followed, surrendering 5 runs on 4 hits in one-third of an inning, while Ava Bowman closed out the game, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits with two walks. Offensively for Mountain View, Alyssa Mitchell recorded the team’s only ball put in play for an out as Dunmore’s defense and pitching combined to completely control the game from start to finish.

This season has been eye opening for the girls. The more we play and practice the more they realize that they can do something special and big on the year. It’s been exciting to watch their confidence in themselves and each other develop since March. We’re looking forward to continuing growing and picking each other up.” Said Sarah Cantarella

As the final outs were recorded and the blazing sun slowly began dropping behind the trees beyond the outfield fence, the feeling around Dunmore’s field felt bigger than just a first-round playoff win. There was energy in the dugout, confidence in the smiles, and belief growing louder with every inning.

The Lady Bucks looked like a team beginning to understand exactly how dangerous they can become this time of year. The bats were alive, the pitching was dominant, and the intensity never dropped from first pitch to final out. Tuesday afternoon did not feel like a team hoping to compete in District 2 — it felt like a team preparing to chase it.

And if Dunmore continues playing with this type of fire, aggression, and togetherness, they are going to be a very difficult team to slow down once in district 2 play.

The Lady Bucks did not just overpower Mountain View physically — they controlled the tempo, the emotion, and the atmosphere of the entire game. On one of the hottest afternoons of the season, Dunmore played with even more heat inside its dugout — the kind of heat that can carry a team deep into May.
